We take responsibility

Sustainability and CSR

We are changing tomorrow’s world with sustainable digitalization - This is our corporate vision. The advancing climate change is one of the major social challenges of our generation and places particular demands on our investment and our actions. We take responsibility and thus advocate for a world that is worth living in for future generations. 

Our basis: We create a framework that promotes sustainable action and serves as our guiding star for future decisions. Beside information, guidelines and specific measures, this also means that we define and measure clear, transparent and comparable performance indicators. We are guided by the criteria of the German Sustainability Code (DNK).

The three pillars of CSR

The concept of corporate social responsibility encompasses three dimensions of corporate responsibility: social, ecological and economical. Additionally, there is corporate citizenship as a social commitment.

Ecological responsibility

Reducing our corporate carbon footprint (CCF) plays a key role in taking environmental responsibility. The CCF is comprised of the direct and indirect emissions of the entire company, which we track as accurately as possible. Employing ecocockpit as a helpful tool, we then calculate our corporate carbon footprint. Ensuing is the identification of successful measures to reduce our footprint. One example is our catering for company events: Primarily vegetarian and preferably regional food makes a real difference. 

Our employees' commute to the office, customers’ office and vice versa is one of our key ecological issues. We support working from home and make sure to travel as environmentally friendly as possible for on-site appointments, for example by train. We have eliminated company cars, instead employees and the environment benefit from our job bike arrangement. Our own energy use is also an important factor. We obtain our energy from district heating and green electricity.

Economic responsibility

In our daily business, we assume both ecological and economic responsibility. As an IT service provider, we work with many different customers, thus creating an increased indirect influence on the sustainability of products and processes. Our levers are the IT systems we work with and develop for our customers. As part of a Green IT initiative, we have investigated various issues relating to this topic, including the impact of data formats on performance and CO2 consumption. We are now incorporating these findings into our projects.

We are shaping the growth of our organization and our collaboration with customers and partners in a sustainable way and are focusing on long-term, trusting relationships. The working conditions for our employees have both an economic and social component. Values such as creative participation, a sense of purpose and work-life balance are deeply ingrained in our corporate guidelines.

Social responsibility

The pillar of social responsibility in CSR encompasses people and their working conditions within the company: Diversity, corporate culture, demographic change and, more generally, a fair working environment that retains employees. We are tackling the transformation of our working world with various New Work approaches that focus on employees and their needs. As an employee cooperative, we are characterized by a particularly high degree of transparency and opportunities for co-design.

Corporate Citizenship

Corporate citizenship refers to the charitable commitment of a company without a direct business connection. Traditionally, this refers to donations which we primarily make in response to major social disasters, such as the flood disaster in the Ahr valley. We explicitly do not support any political parties. At the heart of our corporate citizenship has been our CI Volunteer Day for many years. This takes place annually and gives all employees the opportunity to volunteer for a wide variety of projects.
